Located on the Eastern Coast of the Adriatic Sea is the country that is often called the Jewel of Eastern Europe, and Crna Gora or Black Mountain. Like so many other principalities in Eastern Europe, the region that now makes up modern Montenegro lies in a hotly contested area that has been the battlefield for many revolutions and wars over the years. Throughout all of the fighting, Montenegro struggled to maintain itselt as a free and independent state. It wasn’t until 1878 that Montenegro was officially recognized, and became independent; however the region around Montenegro began changing rapidly in this area of the world at the turn of the century, and became a Kingdom in 1910.
While borders of Croatia, Albania, and other pre-WWI and WWII States waxed and waned leading up to the great wars, WWII decidedly shook up the region, and Montenegro spent the next thirty years shifting…
